English sophomore and former Cheshyre Cheese Club president Stephanie Acosta loads one of the many boxes for their food drive, in Gonzales Hall.

The Cheshyre Cheese Club is sponsoring a food drive for students in need of assistance for Thanksgiving.

If one person brings one thing, it can make a difference, English Instructor Jane Focht-Hansen said Tuesday.

The food drive will end right before Thanksgiving, she said.

"Pay it forward is what I say," she said.

Last year, the club helped two families, and members expect to help two families this year. The drive is accepting donations of goods or gift cards.

Bake wear and dishes or roasters also can be donated.

The club will get recommendations for families from the college's women's center.

The first food drive by the club was set up in memory of Jack Leslie, the husband of former Cheshyre Cheese Club President Krissy Taylor-Leslie, who died in a motorcycle accident.

The club helped box the food and the families came and loaded their cars up with the donations, Focht-Hansen said.

As much as the Cheshyre Cheese Club would like to help everyone, their main goal is to help the students here who are in need, Focht-Hansen said.

For information on location of boxes on campus, call Focht-Hansen at 733-2520 or Caroline Richardson and Jerry Robledo at 733-2505.
