Fotoseptiembre displays works of students in fine arts

It was a lovely Texas day at the Hemisfair Park for Instituto Cultural de México to celebrate 50 years and to host part of the extensive annual Fotoseptiembre USA-SA Foto International Photography Festival.

Visitors, local students, family and friends were welcomed with music, appetizers and wine to a Fotoseptiembre exhibition of San Antonio College visual arts and technology students.

"We've displayed work before at the visual arts gallery, but this is a great step for emerging photographers to get their work seen in galleries outside of college," said Rebecca Dietz, curator and fine arts instructor at this college.

Kelly Walls, whose work "Majestic" is included in the exhibit, was very excited to see the photography of her classmates, referring to them as "absolutely gorgeous."

"Beginning Photographers from the San Antonio College Fine Arts & Technology Program" displays a year of student work from Photography 1 and 2 courses in the Frida Kahlo Gallery and will share the cultural venue with international artists such as Gabriel Figueroa Flores, son of Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa; Reiko Imoto displaying "The Mini-Series"; and various photographic artists from Nuevo León, México.

"These students did quality photography and we're very pleased to show it in our gallery," ICM Director Gabriela Franco Palafox said.

Fotoseptiembre USA-SA Foto International Photography Festival exhibits are free and will continue through Oct. 26.
