Staff Council members were joined by sociology Professor Terri Slonaker, a representative of Faculty Senate, during the Oct. 16 meeting in the employee lounge of Loftin Student Center.
Jacob-Aidan Martinez, Staff Council president-elect, led the meeting for Staff Council President Analisa Sengele who was away at a conference.
“One of the things that we are going to try to do is have a representative from the Faculty Senate at our meetings,” Martinez said in introducing Slonaker to council members.
Slonaker explained what she hopes to gain from volunteering as Faculty Senate representative.
“This may have been done in the past where we try and collaborate, and I don’t know if it worked before — what went well and what didn’t go well,” Slonaker said.
Slonaker said she volunteered as a liaison to share areas of concern and complaints common to this college’s faculty and staff.
“If we want to, at any point, work on joint projects or joint outreach, those were ideas suggested to me,” Slonaker said.
Dee Dixon, student success specialist, was chosen to represent Staff Council at Faculty Senate meetings.
The senate meets 2 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month in Room 120 of the visual arts center.
Other topics included follow-ups on committee work, which led to the discussion of the resignation of Staff Council Treasurer Deborah Harrison.
Martinez said Harrison resigned for personal reasons and said she did not want to elaborate.
At the next meeting, Nov. 7, members will vote on a new treasurer and chair for the employee-of-the-month committee.
