The Cheshyre Cheese Club will welcome writer Maria Lima, author of urban fantasy novels, including the Blood Lines series, at 10 a.m. Friday in the auditorium of Longwith Radio, Television and Film building.

Lima will present a writer’s workshop in the writing center limited to 15 participants at 2 p.m. Friday, club adviser and writing center Director Jane Focht-Hansen said.

Lima, who works as a web developer, graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting and film.

According to the author’s website, Lima has published short stories, fiction, and non-fiction throughout her writing career.

Lima’s first published short story, “The Butler Didn’t Do It,” which appeared in “Chesapeake Crimes,” was nominated for an Agatha Award for best short story.

She started the Blood Lines series in 2007 published by Pocket Books. They include “Matters of the Blood,” “Blood Bargain,” Blood Kin,” “Blood Heat,” and “Blood Sacrifice.”

Along with her fantasy novels, Lima’s latest non-fiction book, “Collected Works from an Unrepentant Writer,” is a compilation of her various blog posts, essays and thoughts.

College President Robert Zeigler, Vice President Robert Vela, and Emma Mendiola, dean of student affairs, have assisted in bringing Lima to campus, Focht-Hansen said.
