The Onstage Drama Club will sponsor auditions this week for a haunted house fundraiser that will take place Oct. 19-20 in Loftin Student Center.

The auditions will be 5 p.m.-6 p.m. today through Thursday in the auditorium of McAllister Fine Arts Center.

Stephanie Gonzales, historian and secretary, said the club asks students to prepare a scary story or urban legend and tell it in a monologue. There are no length requirements when auditioning for the event.

Officers of the club will choose about 20 participants for the event.

The theme last year was Carnage Carnival. During the event last year, 500 people attended. This is the club’s largest fundraiser.

This year’s theme, “Malice in Wonderland,” is a twisted version of “Alice in Wonderland,” Gonzales said.

Admission to the haunted house will be free for college students with a SAC ID and $5 dollars for general admission.

Gonzales said the club plans to use this year’s proceeds to travel to New York or Chicago.

Treasurer Erika Gonzales said the haunted house differs from a stage play, because although the volunteers will be assigned characters and scripts, it allows more room for improvisation.

After the fundraiser, Stephanie Gonzales said the club will invite participants to a party or take them to see a performance at the Majestic Theatre.

Volunteers also are needed to help create the sets for the fundraiser.

The club meets 1 p.m. every Friday in Room 103 and is seeking new members.
