The second annual Study Abroad Fair sponsored by the district office of international programs will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday in the mall.
This fair is for students at all five of the district colleges, Carol Fimmen, district director of international programs, said Wednesday.
A canopy will be set up to protect students from the sun and the tables will be divided by country.
The fair will be only at this college this year because the central location is easier for students to get to, Maria Rivera, study abroad and International programs coordinator, said.
Trips are scheduled to China, Japan, Italy, Denmark and Europe, which includes Germany, France and Switzerland. Two trips are scheduled to Spain.
Students who cannot attend can find the study abroad application and eligibility requirements online after Friday at alamo.edu/international/study-abroad.
Requirements include being currently enrolled and seeking a degree, minimum 2.0 grade-point average, meeting academic requirements and prerequisites, and completed at least 12 credit hours by the departure date.
The deadline for the application is Dec. 7 along with a nonrefundable $200 application fee.
Students can turn in applications at the international programs office in Room 7 of Building C at 201 W. Sheridan, or with a faculty trip adviser.
China and one Spain trip have Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships available for students needing additional funding for their trip. A representative will be available to answer questions at the fair.
Information on the Alamo Colleges Study Abroad scholarships will be available in October.
The deadline to get a passport is Jan. 16.
“With the $200 application fee, (the passport fee) is included in the program. It is not additional money we're asking for,” Rivera said.
The initial deposit for all the study-abroad trips is $550, due Dec. 17.
For students participating in study-abroad programs, a mandatory orientation is April 10.
