The Ranger will present the Source Awards for the fall semester at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in Room 212 of Loftin Student Center.
Each semester, The Ranger shows its appreciation to sources who have helped reporters not only report the facts but contributed to their education.
Here are the nominations in each category for fall 2008:

The Informant
This award is given to a source to whom the reporter can turn for reliable information. The source makes sure the reporter understands the topic to enable the reporter to report accurately.

Patience is a Virtue
This source understands that many reporters at The Ranger are just starting out and may need a little time to get the hang of things.
The nominees include speech Instructor Jolinda Ramsey; Delia De Luna of disability support services; student activities specialist Carrie Hernandez; John Strybos, associate vice chancellor of facilities, operation and construction management; and James McLaughlin.

Mother Hen
This award will go to the source who has nurtured reporters through their education and contributed to their growth

The nominees include Presidents Paula McKenna and Terry Walch and the entire Faculty Senate; political science Professor Christy Woodward-Kaupert; and speech Instructor Charles Falcon

Big Tipper
This source is a constant supply of good tips that turn into good stories.
The nominees include Anonymous; librarian John Deosdade; librarian Stephan Dingman; Christy Woodward-Kaupert; kinesiology chair Bill Richardson; and Jorge Posadas, director of student life.

If Vegas were to take bets on sources returning calls and providing good, reliable information, this source would have very good odds.
The nominees include Frances Crawford; President Robert Zeigler; Aaron Tavitas; health center coordinator Paula Daggett; women's center chair Helen Vera; and forensics science sophomore Johnny Taylor.

Forgive and Forget
The Ranger sometimes does not portray a source in the best way or reporters inadvertently get facts wrong. For those sources who have gotten irritated by The Ranger but still make themselves available, this award is for them.
The nominees include Jolinda Ramsey and Northeast Lakevew College.

Above and Beyond.
This source goes the extra mile to make sure a reporter gets what they need.
The nominees are Tim Rockey, dean of continuing education and workforce development; and interim Executive Vice President Jessica Howard.
