Free popcorn, hip-hop music and a caricature artist lured about 600 students into Loftin Student Center Wednesday for Stress-out Day.

Stress-Out Day is an event that helps students relieve stress by participating in vigorous activities. This event was planned for the mall area southeast of Loftin Student Center, but instead it took place inside because rain was forecast, Carrie Hernández, student activities specialist, said.

"We originally wanted to use the Fiesta Room in Loftin Student Center, but we were told it was booked, but nobody ever showed up," Hernández said.

"It was no problem to move this event inside because this year, we did not have any inflatables, but instead we had all tables (stands)."

Popcorn was given to students who filled out a survey about what kind of activities they would like to see on campus.

The survey was taken by the student life office to get students' ideas for planning future events.

The Student Art Guild raised money by selling crafts and buttons.

Proceeds will go toward trips to museum and art exhibitions, fine arts sophomore Melissa Garza said.

At another stand, students received free buttons with messages and artwork.

"I sell buttons at the end of every week, but today at this event I just give buttons away," Frank Gonzalez, business marketing sophomore, said.

He gave away buttons with messages such as "I Love Radiohead" and "MySpace.com" to promote his business, Frank Sbuttons.

Students from the Methodist Student Center had a booth because they wanted to let students know what the center is about, education sophomore Cyrus Bellieu, intern at the center, said.

"We want to recruit new students to join the Methodist Student Center, but there is no pressure (to join). Anybody is invited," Bellieu added.

Students can volunteer one semester at the Methodist Student Center and then become a member (student intern), he explained.

At 11:30 a.m., three students were standing in front of a green background to take a 3-D photo.

Students had their picture taken with two poses, and once the picture was printed, one could move the picture back and forth, and the students in the picture would move.

Other students were waiting in a line to be drawn by a caricature artist.

Art sophomore Amanda Montes said this event helped her to relieve stress.

"School and finances can become overwhelming, so this event really helps to clear your mind," Montes said.

Theater freshman Brandon Gonzales said, "It is a good timing that this event happens right now, later in the semester, because I just dropped a class, and because of the Stress-out Day, I already feel better."

The most popular stand this year was the "wacky 3-D photos" because it was something different, Hernández said.
