Student success is at the center of anything that the Alamo Community College District does.

For anyone who doubts it, the district is showcasing a new strategic plan logo.

At the June regular board of trustees meeting, board members approved a new vision, mission, outcome, values, strategic drivers, logo and goals.

Dr. Bruce Leslie, district chancellor, presented the new strategic plan at an Academic Accountability and Student Success Committee meeting in June.

The difference between the old strategic plan strategies and the new strategic plan strategies is that they are condensed and simplified.

"It's designed to clarify and make simpler the imagery and the wording to make it that much more effective as a communication tool," Leslie said.

The new logo shows student success at the center and the five goals surrounding it.

"The key changes add student success as an outcome instead of making it a goal," Leslie said. "It makes student success a result of our efforts."

Board Chairman Roberto Zárate, who represents District 6, agreed, adding, "It's true, that's all we are here for. It's for students, if we are here for any other reason there's some problem."

The new vision of the district is, "The Alamo Community Colleges will be the best in the nation."

The goals are access to higher education, student support, workforce development, capacity to serve, and organizational communication.

The new strategic plan can be seen at the Strategic Plan Web site accessible through the district's main page at www.accd.edu under the employees tab.
