A job fair is scheduled Oct. 3, and the job placement center has a variety of services to help students get ready.

The fair will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Gym 1 in Candler Physical Education Center. The job fair is limited to current students.

Forty-two employers are expected to attend the job fair representing a variety of fields, Angelique Vonau, job placement clerk, said Tuesday.

Some of the employers at the fair will be USAA, IBC Bank, San Antonio City Employees Federal Credit Union, City of San Antonio, U.S. Border Patrol and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Students can come to the job placement center in the Balditt Counseling Center on the first floor of Moody Learning Center to get assistance with résumés.

A specialist helps students develop professional résumés that list specific skills, use descriptive terms and have appropriate headings, Catarina Dominguez, job placement specialist, said.

Students should take advantage of the résumé services because résumés are an important tool to getting noticed, she said. Another service is help with interviewing. The center helps students develop interviewing skills by videotaping interviews so students can review and know what they need to improve.

Students do a mock interview with a staff member, and students can receive a copy of the tape or DVD.

It is recommended that students make an appointment, she said. The office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The best times for students to drop by are from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

They can expect to spend about 15 minutes with a specialist. Call 785-6021.
