At their Sept. 5 meeting, there was a general understanding that this college's status as an individual college in a district is being threatened by a single Alamo Community Colleges transcript that the senators consider, at best, a bad side effect of the new Banner system.
The worry is, that with the implementation of the new system, as well as the standard transcript for all colleges, transcripts will no longer say which college a student attended.
"The transcript will be the Alamo Community Colleges, but the college will also be on the transcript, so it will be clear that a student took classes or courses at SAC," Zeigler said, trying to put the senate's worries to rest, instead of being met with more inquiry.
Faculty Senate Chair Terry Walch asked if a university would require transcripts from more than one college. Zeigler thought that was a good question.
Daniel Ayala, the assistant director of transfer admissions for the University of Texas at San Antonio, said, "Once they have the one transcript for all schools, then we will honor that."
The next item on the senate's wish list was an update on the budget for fiscal year 2008.
"We have more money than we did last year," Zeigler said. The problem, he explained, is that many departments in the colleges function very differently than one another.
For instance, Zeigler cited the journalism-photography department as an example - specifically the newspaper, expaining that there is a cost to produce the paper and also a real return, but not a monetary return. He noted the theater and music departments as well.
