The band is the Uptown Creepers, a five-member ska and punk rock group.
Students in RTVB 2431, Audio/Radio Production 3, will record songs for the band.
The goal is to have a recorded extended play disk, or EP, and a release party the first week in December.
Music business sophomore Joey Zamora said Courtland Records takes bands and sees "where (the band) wants to go and where (Courtland Records) can take them and compromise from there."
The marketing department of MUSB 2309, the Record Industry, will work on press releases, images, slogans and logos.
Professor Fred Weiss, who oversees the program, said multiple classes will contribute to the work.
MUSB 2345, Live Music and Talent Management, works on putting on events. MUSB 1341, Concert Promotion and Venue Management, which Weiss taught in the spring, worked on getting concerts together. MUSB 2380, Cooperative Education - Music Management and Merchandising, an internship course in the summer, "kept Courtland Records alive" in between semesters, Weiss said.
The music business program, which began three years ago, puts the students in charge of their learning.
"I don't sit there lecturing; it's a business meeting," Weiss said.
In 2006, Weiss was awarded a $1,500 grant for his innovative teaching methods, and with that money, created a problem-solution based-learning class where students take problems and find ways to solve them.
The problem chosen was "can (students) develop a record company?"
Last year the program produced an EP of three songs each from She Thinks I'm Famous and Applicant.
"I hope and expect that Courtland Records will be a full-time operation providing workplace experience for the students involved and provide income to the district," Weiss said. "In addition to the record company and a publishing company, I would like to see us getting into concert promotion, artist development and other areas which relate to specific courses in the music business curriculum."
