The Student Government Association is serious about turning this campus green.
In their meeting Wednesday, members planned to write an edict expressing their interest in making this and all district campuses more environmentally friendly.
The edict would be shared with student governments from the other colleges, he said.
Adviser Suzanne Martinez said she was particularly upset about trees being ripped out and thrown away as a result of construction.
Introducing more recycling bins on campus was key in the drive, but Martinez said recycling should wait until student government proposes a completed policy on environmental reforms districtwide.
This way, she said, a proper educational campaign could effectively teach students on campus how to properly use the recycle bins.
Williams said he was scheduled to meet with Jorge Posadas, director of student life, about the school's recycling contract.
Martinez added to the agenda her plans to secure the ability for students to vote online in the next student government election near the end of November.
She said the online election plans would include developing an online application process and listings of what skills are needed for each position.
In other business, President Matt Williams invited his fellow SGA members to participate in an open meeting at 10 a.m. today in Room 323 of Fletcher Administration Center for the Parking Committee headed by Tim Rockey, dean of continuing education and workforce development, to give students a voice on whether the new parking garage will be for faculty only, students only or both.
The student government will conduct their meetings at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays in Room 317 of Fletcher Administration Center.
Students who want to bring an issue to student government's attention are welcome to attend a 2:30 p.m. after-meeting open forum in the same room.
