Francesca DiTroia, former Student Government Association president, got into a fight with Carla Owen a Global Ambassadors Club member, while on a club trip to Monterrey, Mexico, in May.

Owen said she and DiTroia didn't get along the whole trip. "She told me I'm stupid because I said we can't pull the troops out of Iraq while we were on our way there," Owen said.

"One night we went out, and after I came back, I was going up the stairs to my room and DiTroia was coming down and she didn't move and ended up pushing me," Owen added. "She could've moved, but she didn't."

Owen said she tried to calm herself down and did not respond, and told Karin Wilking, Global Ambassadors Club adviser, about what happened.

The next morning, Owen and DiTroia agreed to settle their differences with the help of Wilking, Owen added.

In an interview Thursday, Wilking confirmed Owen's story.

According to the college's admissions and records office, DiTroia is not enrolled in college this semester, and attempts to reach her on her cell phone have been unsuccessful.

DiTroia was elected president of Student Government Association Nov. 29 for a one-year term.

Owen said she got a phone call to go see Emma Mendiola, interim dean of student affairs, and was told that an investigation was under way to determine who was wrong."

"Somebody told DiTroia to take the whole thing to Mendiola's office," Owen said. "DiTroia went in there with the intention of getting me expelled when I didn't do anything wrong."

Owen said student life Director Jorge Posadas does not like Wilking although Owen said Wilking is a great person.

Wilking said, "I was not there when DiTroia pushed her, but Carla did approach me and told me about what happened."

Wilking also said she and Posadas did not work well together. "Posadas went to Dr. (Robert) Zeigler and told him that I had the students out of control and that I allowed them to drink," Wilking said. "At the same time, Tyler Archer had students drinking in her room."

Archer is the assistant coordinator of student leadership and activities in the office of student life. She went on the club's trip along with Posadas as a chaperone.

First, it's obvious The Ranger failed in reporting as objectively as possible; querying, what's her face, Suzanne Martinez for DiTroia's e-mail would have yielded results or someone on SGA. (Continued…)

I did not know hearsay was such a valid source of information when it came to reporting news... Having been in several organizations on this campus, as well as other colleges and universities, I have learned that all clubs and such will always have 'undesirable' members who's behavior lacks severely.
