It's that time of year again. Fall is almost gone, and we're deep in the holiday season.

You know what that means - we finally get a much-needed break in yet another school year and the regular stress of publication deadlines.

We spent our summer in COMM 2373, Feature Writing, trying to figure out stories to cover for our magazine, The Fourth Write, and now we finally get to see the end result.

It wasn't easy, though.

We struggled to find stories and ended up hanging out after class at music venues and local bars where smoking was allowed. The college district banned smoking on all campuses this fall. (Yes, I'm sorry to say I am a smoker.)

We started hanging out at Sam's Burger Joint after class, getting to know local bartenders and musicians and realized everyone had a story to tell.

One night, we ventured into a bowling alley and stumbled onto the sounds of neon bowling balls striking pins while DJs spun loud music in the dark.

We found ourselves in the middle of a game, trying not to end up in the gutter.

On yet another night, we managed to get backstage passes to the Blue Star's Art of Fashion show where we rubbed elbows with movers and shakers, while drinking refreshments and smoking cigarettes as local designers and models strutted down the catwalk. (Yes, I'm addicted to cigarettes, but we all have issues.)

We met the Downtown Highlife Bicycle Club in front of the Alamo, ventured out into the city on bikes and took in a film under a bridge, listened to a metal band outside Sunset Station and visited a local cemetery.

Exploring abandoned buildings littered with graffiti isn't all it's cracked up to be when you're knee deep in mud, class starts in 30 minutes and you haven't eaten yet, but it's all in a day's work.

The life of a journalist may be hectic, but it's always an adventure. Hopefully, you'll choose to tag along with us.
