In celebration of Black History Month, Texas Public Radio, in collaboration with Gemini Ink, will host "Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the auditorium of McAllister Fine Arts Center.

The program honors black literary heritage with live readings of diverse works of short fiction.

"For more than 20 years, 'Selected Shorts' has taken contemporary artists' written work and given it life through live performance," Texas Public Radio spokesman Alberto Salazar said.

"Selected Shorts" will feature Broadway actress Myra Lucretia Taylor, writer and actor Michael Genet and the host of "Selected Shorts," Isaiah Sheffer, each reading short stories from contemporary black authors.

Gemini Ink will open the reading with its Dramatic Readers Theater performance of "The Ballad of Henry Box Brown" from Sterling Houston's "Black and Blue: 400 Years of Struggle and Transcendance."

Tickets are still available - $20 for TPR members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students. Tickets are available at Half Price Books throughout the city, as well as at Bjorns Audio and Visual, 14123 U.S. Highway 281.

'Selected Shorts' airs on National Public Radio, KSTX 89.1 FM at 2 p.m. Saturdays.
