In other words, an individual will mimic the behavior of their peers because imitation is a means by which to increase others' liking for the individual. The imitation then, over time, becomes normal behavior for the individual.
In my case, imitating my friends was affecting my performance and behavior in class and on the job. My relationship with my friends was not leading me closer to accomplishing the goals I set for my life. Now for the most part, I no longer socialize with any of my old friends.
However, I now use imitation to work in my advantage. I take classes with other members of the newspaper staff and together created an informal learning group.

For anyone struggling through college, developing a system of support can help. Having friends that motivate you to do better and advance your education are invaluable.
