Broaden art horizons with contemporary subjects at symposium
The annual Spring Student Symposium in Art History will take place from 10:50 a.m.-12:05 p.m. Thursday in Room 120 of the visual arts center. Four students will present research papers produced for art appreciation or art history classes. These papers were chosen from hundreds of papers submitted to Professors Marlene Hoover and Debra Schafter from teachers of those classes.

Cine Mujer: Women in film screens Saturday
Esperanza Peace and Justice Center will host the final weekend of CineMujer, a mini international film festival screening short films, documentaries and features that focus on social and political issues related to women. This is the fourth year the center has sponsored the festival.

15th annual pledge drive begins Monday
KSYM's 15th annual pledge drive on 90.1 FM will be from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. daily April 7-13. The drive will be televised on Time Warner Cable's public access Channel 20 starting at 5 p.m. April 11-13. Last year, KSYM raised $38,884. There will be no minimum amount that a listener can pledge.

Students' poetry awards to include cash prizes

The annual Alamo Community College District poetry competition celebrating National Poetry Month will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of McAllister Fine Arts Center. "Words are important, and there is no better way to celebrate writing, than by sharing poetry," said English Instructor Jane Focht-Hansen.

Honor students showcase their musical talent on Tuesday

Music students will perform an honors recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of McAllister Fine Arts Center. An honors recital is performed every spring semester by music students who have demonstrated progress in private teaching lessons. "Private lesson students will be given a chance to perform individually and exhibit showmanship," vocal sophomore Sarah Arce said.
