For students who are interested in going to summer school and have completed the 2007-08 Free Application for Federal Student Aid application, the financial aid summer 2008 applications will be available beginning April 14 at the financial aid office in Room 101 of Fletcher Administration Center.

If you haven't filled out the 2007-08 FAFSA, you still have until June 30 to complete and submit the form.

The summer application is for qualified students who may need additional money to help pay for their summer school tuition.

Transfer students from other universities and colleges outside of the college district, who are planning to take only summer classes here, are not qualified for the additional summer tuition unless they will be attending school for the 2008-09 academic year.

Students who have already completed the 2008-09 FAFSA form and are selected for verification can stop by the financial aid office or log into their accounts through the district Web site to inquire about the various federal aid that is available for them for the 2008-09 school year.

Some of the aid that is available are grants and scholarships which do not have to be repaid.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need, and gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants.

The Texas Public Educational Grant is available for students who do not receive any Pell Grant.

Students are considered for the TPEG as long as they are enrolled in school for a minimum of six hours.

"Apply as early as possible because with grants, funds are limited, so it's really on a first-come, first-served basis," said Javier Vargas, associate director of student financial services.

With scholarships, students have the opportunity to go online and download the ACCD scholarship application. Go to www.accd.edu, click on Financial Aid, click on scholarships, click on scholarship applications, and click on the format you would like to download.

Beginning the 2008-09 school year, students no longer need to include reference letters with their scholarship application.

"Three steps to make sure you can qualify to get the most aid for school is to apply early, make sure you keep up with your work, and do research," Vargas said.

For more information, call the financial aid office at 733-2150.
