Montoya said some of her goals for the district include more early college and dual credit classes offered to high school students because her children benefited from them.
"We also don't have enough skilled labor, and the college campuses can help with that," Montoya said, adding that she would like to see more accountability on the district's side as far as where money goes.
Montoya also said there should be more women on the district's board of trustees, and that is one of her reasons for running.
"There needs to be a balance," she added.
Montoya said she was guilty of not being as current as she would like to be with district news.
"Most of the information I get is from what I read in the San Antonio Express-News," Montoya said.
On financing her campaign, Montoya said she has been doing so through fundraisers via people in her neighborhood who know her, and through her contacts at Alamo Heights High School.
"I have a lot of good relationships in the school, also," Montoya said.
