An election for three trustee positions is set for May 10.

Districts 3, 8 and 9 each have two candidates running.

District 8 incumbent Gary Beitzel will face off at the polls with Crista Branch for a six-year term as will District 9 incumbent James Rindfuss and opponent Carolyn Montoya.

Ricardo Martinez and Anna Bustamante will vie for the remaining two-year term for District 3. The winner will serve out the term left by Jennifer Ramos who resigned when she was appointed as District 3 City Councilwoman.

Originally, an election was going to be held for District 4, but only incumbent Marcelo Casillas applied to be on the ballot.

The board of trustees voted Tuesday night to cancel the election for District 4.

As reported in the April 4 issue of The Ranger, district general counsel Martha McCabe said she estimated the district would be saving $70,000 by not holding the election.

District 4 encompasses the southwest part of Bexar County from Potranco Road to past Interstate 37 up to U. S. Highway 90 West.

District 3 encompasses the Southeast part of the county from U.S. Highway 90 East to Interstate 37 South to Interstate 35.

District 8 encompasses the North Central part of the county from Blanco Road to O'Connor Road to Hildebrand Avenue.

District 9 encompasses the Northeast part of the county from Evans Road to Flores Street across to U.S. Hwy. 90 East and Loop 1604 Northeast.

Maps of the districts can be seen at http://www.accd.edu/main/html/board/trustee_election.htm.

Early voting begins April 28 and ends May 5.

To be eligible to vote, people must have registered by April 10.
