Some employees of the Alamo Community College District woke up Tuesday morning to find that they had not been paid.
Employees who bank with Security Service Federal Credit Union and have their pay issued by direct deposit were not paid, although Tuesday was the date for the mid-month paycheck.
Payroll manager Toni Nelson sent out an e-mail to let people know that the problem had occurred with the credit union and not with the district.
"All direct deposits should be posted by noon, and if any fees are incurred Security Service will refund them," the e-mail read.
A second e-mail at 4:59 p.m. Tuesday said the deposit would be complete by the end of business.
John Worthington, senior vice president for Security Service, confirmed that the problem had occurred because of a mistake with the Federal Reserve.
He said several institutions had problems Tuesday with electronic fund transfers.
He explained that the Federal Reserve handles electronic fund transfers, so when they had a problem, direct deposit was affected.
"We spent time with members to honor their deposits," Worthington said. "Everything is back to normal."
Worthington confirmed that any inappropriate fees would be waived.
He did not know how many district employees were affected because the credit union has over 460,000 members, he said.
He suggested that if anyone still has a problem with their direct deposit, they should call the member contact center at 357-9000.
