Popularity of women's event prompts yearly returns

The camino rojo track will be offered for Spanish non-English speakers. This workshop will offer information to help women recognize their educational abilities through speakers and personal testimonies.

Registration and a free continental breakfast for the conference will begin at 8 a.m. May 15 in McAllister.

However, the conference will start at 9 a.m.

A free bag lunch also will be provided for participants.

Helen Vera, coordinator of the women's center, said there is $20,000 worth of scholarship from the ACCD Foundation and $2,125 from individual donors.

To be considered for the scholarship, however, students must meet the following requirements: Register and attend the WE Conference and be present for the scholarship ceremony, have a high school diploma or GED, have less than 30 college credit hours completed as of fall 2007 and enroll in a minimum of six hours for the fall 2008 semester at San Antonio College.

The scholarship deadline is April 24, for conference registration and scholarship forms visit http://www.accd.edu/sac/wc or call 733-2580.

The conference also will have a Healthy Choices and Empowerment workshop, however this event is limited to 60 participants.

The workshop will discuss women's health and ways women can empower themselves to ensure well-being.

Women interested in that workshop should register early to attend.
