Students can pick up parking permits beginning Sept. 7 in the business office in Room 201 of Fletcher Administration Center.
Students can pay in advance at the business office using cash, check or credit card or online through ACES, but they will have to pick them in person at the business office.
The cost is $25, a $4 increase from last fall. The Alamo Community College District board of trustees approved the increase March 23.
The permit is valid through August 2011.
A vehicle registration form must be completed to receive a permit.
The form asks for student's Social Security or Banner ID number and the make, year, model, body style and license plate number of the vehicle.
Students must also present a picture ID.
Julie Cooper, public information officer at this college, said students are advised to park in designated student lots.
Though for now, "college police are allowing flexibility," she said.
Sgt. Ben Peña of the Alamo Colleges police department said, "Currently, we are not issuing citations, but this is strictly for no permits."
Campus police will start issuing parking citations Sept. 13. The fee is $15, and 10 days after citations are issued, the fee increases to $22.
He said, "If students choose to park on the city streets, they will deal with city parking regulations." He added that city citations can be as high as $500.
Contractor vehicles and storage have been removed from Lot 21, a lot open to students as well as faculty and staff. Lot 22, designated for faculty and staff, has reopened.
Lot 21 is located between Nail Technical Center and the tennis courts on West Park Street, and Lot 22 is south of Nail.
Across San Pedro Avenue at Myrtle Street, the city installed three new solar-powered pay stations available for students in the parking lot of Koger Stokes Softball Complex.
