The Onstage Drama Club will stage its annual Haunted house fundraiser co-sponsored by the office of student life 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Loftin Student Center.
The theme will be “Malice in Wonderland,” a twisted version of the original “Alice in Wonderland.”
Treasurer Erika Gonzales said Monday, “This is already our seventh or eighth year doing the creepy stuff, so we decided that with ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ it is one of those interesting stories, where you can take it in so many different directions.”
Expect weirdness, bright colors and many actors, she said
The haunted house is going to have 10 different rooms or scenes, so expect the theme in every room to be different.
“Basically all the main characters of ‘Alice in Wonderland, the ones where we have grown to love in a friendly way, you are going to see all these characters in a new light,” Gonzalez said.
The club had auditions in early September, and the club chose 15 actors, but organizers are expecting to get more actors in by the end of the week.
The club also will have a technical crew of eight people working on the sets. The haunted house so far has a crew of 23.
The club is also trying to get other clubs involved with the event to make it into a mini-carnival.
“We have do have actors form different organizations, like the Psych Club, SGA (Student Government Association), and GALA (Gay Ally Lesbian Association),” she said.
“We are trying to get the other clubs involved, so that if they want to sell any food or drinks, that it will be available for them.”
The haunted house last year raised more than $1,000 and had about 300 people visit each night for a total of 600 visitors.
Costumes will be as creative as the actors.
“The cast will be in charge of their own costumes, so we are not using any of the theater costumes.”
The club will start setting up in the Fiesta Room Thursday afternoon, and the room will be closed to students Friday.
Admission to the haunted house will be free for college students with a SAC ID and $5 dollars for general admission.
No one under the age of 6 will be admitted.
If clubs want to participant in the fundraiser this year, members should contact the club President Alex Post on the Facebook page of the Onstage Drama Club no later that Thursday afternoon.
