Open forums with candidates for the open position of dean of student success will be at 2 p.m. Feb.1-2 in Room 120 of the visual arts center.

The position has been vacant for about a year, since the former dean, Lisa Alcorta, was promoted to vice president of student success.

Dr. Rafael Turner, who formerly served at the Dallas Community College District and Edward G. Robinson, vice president/executive dean of students at Blackhawk Technical College are the candidates for dean of student success.

“They just seemed to have a breadth of knowledge in student success,” Vernell Walker, dean of professional and technical education, said.

One day will be dedicated to each of the candidates for interviews and open forums.

The search started in early December, said Walker, who was head of the committee that decided who the runner-ups would be after interviewing six people.

After both forums, the attendees complete a form and the committee makes a recommendation that goes to President Robert Vela.

The forums are open to students, faculty and staff.
